Outplacement support: what employers should offer
When a company restructures, how it treats departing employees affects them, the people who stay and the company's reputation. Outplacement support helps people move into their next role with confidence.
What is outplacement support?
Outplacement is support that an employer provides to people who are leaving, usually because of redundancy. It typically helps with CVs, interview skills, job searching and confidence, and is often offered as part of a severance package.
What good outplacement includes
- CV and profile help. A current, clear CV tailored to the roles people want next.
- Interview practice. Many people have not interviewed for years. Practice builds confidence quickly.
- Job search guidance. Where to look, how to network and how to approach recruiters.
- Emotional support. Acknowledging that losing a job is stressful, and signposting wellbeing resources.
- Flexibility. Support that people can use at their own pace, in their own language.
Why employers do it
- It is the right thing to do. It shows care for people who have contributed to the business.
- It protects morale. Remaining employees notice how leavers are treated.
- It supports your employer brand. Departing employees talk about their experience.
When to announce support
The best time is as early as possible, alongside the announcement itself, so people can start preparing straight away. Make sure managers know what is on offer so they can answer questions, and send the details in writing so people can refer back to them later.
Practical help that works
- Interview practice with feedback. People who have been in one job for years often need to rebuild interview skills. Practising out loud helps.
- A modern, tailored CV. Many applications are screened by software first, so structure matters. See our guide to beating ATS screening.
- Help telling their story. Long-serving employees can find it hard to describe what they have achieved. Turning memories into clear achievements helps.
- Language support. People are more confident preparing in their first language.
How to choose a provider
- Decide how many people need support and for how long.
- Check what is included: CV help, interview practice, coaching, job search tools.
- Look for flexibility, so people can use it when they are ready.
- Ask how you can measure usage while respecting privacy.
- Consider cost per person compared with traditional programmes.
How EnDev outplacement works
With EnDev Outplacement Pools, the employer buys a credit pool (£3,000 provides 50,000 credits) and receives a secure, time-bound invite code. Departing employees redeem it for full access to EnDev's tools, receiving roughly 500 credits each. That is enough for AI mock interviews, ATS CV rewrites and career story tools, in 12 languages. Pricing is custom, so please get in touch to size a pool for your programme.
